Sherwood Marine Centre opened its doors in 1982 as a small family owned and operated business at a location near Elk Lake, just outside of Victoria. Originally comprised of Barry Sherwood, his family, and one additional employee, the staff sold outboard motors, boats, and trailers. Establishing themselves as one of Canada's largest volume outboard dealerships within a few years, Sherwood Marine Centre quickly became a well known and respected name in marine sales. Over time a variety of additional boat and motor lines were added, as well as the parts and marine sports departments, resulting in the need to expand. In January of 1992 Sherwood Marine Centre moved into its current facility in the Keating Industrial Park, ten minutes from the original location.
