From new and used sport boats, cuddy cabins and cruisers to inflatables, from outboard motors to a wide variety of accessories, Sherwood Marine offers outstanding deals and friendly, no-hassle shopping on Vancouver Island.



As with most family owned and operated dealerships, Sherwood Marine began as a small shop, selling boats and outboard motors near Elk Lake just outside of Victoria. Barry Sherwood, his family, and 1 additional employee opened the business in 1982, representing Evinrude outboards, K & C boats, and Highliner trailers.

Within a very short time, the little shop was ‘on the map’ having established themselves as one of Canada’s largest volume Evinrude dealerships. Over the first few years additional boat lines like Malibu were added, as well as inflatables and the most complete water ski & accessory shop on the Island.

By the early 90’s Sherwood Marine was literally bursting the seams of the little shop, so in January of 1992 they relocated to a completely new facility about 10 minutes away.

 

With 8,000 square feet of indoor showroom, a ski department mezzanine and a service department with 10 workstations the new Sherwood Marine was ready for another growth phase.

More avid boaters and certified technicians were brought onboard, as the number of staff grew to what now numbers nearly 30 in sales, parts and service. Johnson, and Honda outboards were added to the Evinrude line, as well as Volvo Penta and Mercruiser stern drives. Seaswirl and Four Winns rounded out the boat selection, along with riveted and welded aluminum boats by Harbercraft. The accessory store grew to be one of the largest on Vancouver Island, and the inflatable department added such prestigous lines as Aquapro, Caribe, Rendova, and AB.

Within the last few years, Sherwood Marine has found itself straining at the seams again. A new brokerage division (Sherwood Yacht Sales), handling used and consignment sales opened at a second one-acre location. In-water brokerage is being handled though their new Sidney office at the Port of Sidney Marina.

Even with all the growth and expansion over the years, Barry Sherwood is still at the helm.

"Sherwood Marine is still very much a local, family business,” says Barry. “We are serious about the marine business, and committed to doing the best we can to service all the boaters in our community.”
